Complete a project, learn new things, repeat...

Hey , I hope this email finds you well.

First of all a big welcome to the email list to those new subscribers who opted in from the Battle Panda 2 Kickstarter.

The team and I have been busy finishing off issue 2 of Battle Panda. We completed all the pages (inks and colours), at the time of writing we are doing the first round of edits on the letters.

In overall terms we are approaching the finishing line.

Each book teaches me new things.

It may be about the writing process, exploring the 'why' behind the book, right the way across the spectrum to manufacturing new products.

Making fridge magnets and enamel pins

In each project I like to break new ground. This time around I wanted to explore products, designing, pricing, manufacturing, shipping fridge magnets and enamel pins.

It was definitely a good learning experience to understand about the different materials involved in the products.

For example on the magnet I added a UV holographic coating the product, but the percentage mix I I chose varied the magnet look a lot. It was a delicate mix of getting enough of the holographic look and making sure the underlying image is still the main attraction.

I went for a subtle holographic overlay.

With the pins I learnt how adding in more colours can begin to complicate the manufacturing of the items.

I'm hoping to sign off the book next week and request a print proof next week.

All being well, I'll sign of on it and I'll be in the land of printing labels and preparing envelopes for my fifth successfully fulfilled Kickstarter.

Strange things I saw in town last week

So I went up to the world renowned Harrods last week, (no, I wasn't lost). I found this artist who paints designs onto shoes.

It gave me an idea, maybe further down the line I could ask the artist if he'd do a Battle Panda or Digitopia design on trainers.

They have some pretty cool mannequins modelling the apparel there too.
