Supporting New Zealand
Published: Sun, 03/24/19
In the main I tend to stay away from political topics or current affairs. This time out I wanted to take time out to acknowledge the victims of tragedy in New Zealand that happened the previous week.
As we know there are some truly horrible people in the world who not only plan these things but actually carry out these barbaric and savage acts. These people who conduct these terrible attacks come from different corners of the world, they claim to represent different people - they represent only themselves, they come to divide us but they will fail.
There are however lots of truly wonderful people in the world, I've seen and received so many messages of support over the past week, it'd be impossible to name them all. In this email I'd like to focus on the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern - as well as being a truly humane person, she has shown what good leadership looks like - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-47630129
I know a lot of my readership is spread out in different countries and leaders of those countries tend to vary in quality - I think our leaders could do well to learn from the New Zealand Prime Minister.
I hadn't heard much of Jacinda Ardern before, but everything I've seen from her in the past week has been so encouraging - first of all the good people of New Zealand picked her as their leader and secondly in a world of crooked and sub-standard politicians, she has brought hope, hope that there are still some good people who go into politics - I hope some of the other global leaders will learn from her.
From our own Parliament, the Speaker of the House put in a one minute silence in the chambers and expressed it very well how we stand with the people in New Zealand and the victims of terror attacks from wherever the terror comes from - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvIqN-6l9TA.
Take care and have yourselves a good week ahead.
