Hi , I just wanted to send a quick update to let you know that we are a significant step closer finishing off Digitopia 3.0.
We just shared the files with our printer Rich at Comic Printing UK.
Getting a book ready for print versus getting it ready for digital
No doubt about it, there is a tonne more effort and steps involved in preparing a book for print than for digital distribution.
Many people, me included like print. There is something about having a print book in hand that makes me feel that I've finished the project - it does extend the time out a lot.
Rich, who I've got to know quite well at Comic Printing UK will send me back a digital proof first, this checks that everything fits within the safe area, trim lines and bleeds.
Did you want to still get yourself a paperback copy of any of the Digitopia books?
In the last update I mentioned that I have set up a Gum Road page for anyone who wants to get themselves a paperback copy of the book before I send the individual books off for their final print run.
Whether you've missed one of the issues and want to complete your collection or if you had previously gone digital and would like to get the paperback versions - these discount codes (for this Kickstarter campaign only) will get the best prices.
Ordering through Gumroad - FAQs
Q: What is Gumroad, I've never heard of it? Is it trustworthy?
A: Gumroad is a trust worthy site, it's a place where independent creators have a safe online presence and secure checkout - it offers a credible alternative to Amazon.
Q: Will the Gumroad page delay the Kickstarter fulfilment?
A: No. I will fulfil the Kicsktarter orders first, once those are posted I will then start on packaging up the Gumroad books.
Q: What if I've ordered issue 3 in the Kickstarter and want to add issue 1 and/or 2 through Gumroad - will the books come at the same time?
A: As best I can I will cross reference any names and addresses from the Kickstarter page and the Gumroad sales report.
As this is the first time I've used Gumroad, it's probably a good idea to drop me a message either through here or the Kicsktarter page so I can make sure I put everything together in one envelope.
The postage price will increase as the weight of the parcel increases, so I'm hoping the prices level out.
Q: Will the books arrive in good condition?
A: I learnt my lesson last time using jiffy bags, this time I am using sturdy cardboard mailers to make sure the books arrive in the best condition they can.
I'll drop you another email as and when I'm expecting to get the physical print proof back, after which I'll be closing these pre-order pages and getting the final books back.
Hopefully you can get yourself a copy of the books.
I don't normally add on sports or cultural topics into my email, but just wanted to wish Emma good luck ahead of the US open final.
I found out that the game will be free to view on Channel 4 tonight, starting at 9pm (BST) it's also on Amazon Prime in the UK.
I started playing tennis (albeit at a very basic level) last year and, as I can attest to, it's way more difficult than it looks.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and look forward to showing you the print version of Digitopia 3 very shortly.
