We have a new Editor on Digitopia 3.0
Hey , hope this email finds you well.
It's been a very exciting couple of weeks since I emailed you last. I sent out all the Kickstarter backer rewards for issue 2 of the book and have finished the latest draft of Digitopia 3.0.
This past week I'm really pleased to announce that Nicole DAndria is taking on the role of Editor for issue 3 of Digitopia.
So far we've had a couple of meeting and she's provided a really deep edit of Digitopia 3.0, which I have promised to return to her by Thursday for the second round of edits.
The value of having a good editor
Having an editor is great, I think sometimes the value they bring to a project can easily be overlooked - after all it's the artists who get centre stage in a comic book project.
Every time I've worked with an editor, I'm really amazed at how much and how quickly they improve the script.
My approach to working with an editor is that over several drafts I write the best script I possibly can, till the point, I can't improve it any more.
I give it to an editor and instantly the script improves, the characterisation gets sharper, the plotting more clear, different layouts, compositions, right the way to the dialogue flow.
We need people to challenge us
Another hesitation I hear from people is that having an editor will derail their vision and they don't want to be challenged on their ideas.
To me, having ideas challenged is a good thing. Having talented people work together makes for better books.
I'm about to invest a lot of time and energy working with artists and launching and fulfilling a Kickstarter, if the quality of the end product can be improved at the start than why would I not want to do that?
Fine, my ego might get a bit bruised by someone telling me that the work can be improved. I 100% prefer someone telling me that 1-2-1 than for a book to go 'out there' and customers point out things that aren't working.
I encourage you to find people in your life who can challenge you to be better in the areas you want to improve in.
Don't let someone challenging you put you off, instead embrace it, ultimately if we can put our ego to one side, we'll have a far better product at the end of the process.
Thanks and tell your friends too
I know I always say thank you for your support, it is true this is hard to do on my own, I really appreciate every click, every like, every share and every comment that the content gets.
As always tell your friends about the book and
the blog - recommending your friends sign up is the best way for the audience to grow.
The best place to point your friends is to the sign up page where they'll get a free digital art book of Digitopia 1.0 and get to join the community.
Hope you're enjoying the content, stay safe and we'll speak again next week.
Thanks
Farhan
