Hey , what a crazy year this has been, so much has gone on this year, I wanted to share with you one of the three big learnings I got out of this year.
1. Learning to let go and focus only on what you can do
Whilst I was making my Digitopia 2.0, five major world events took place that hugely affected the book's production.
- Wild bush fires raged in Australia at the start of the year, this significantly affected the book's production as you know that both artists who were working on Digitopia 2 are based in Australia - it had a big impact on the team.
- COVID-19 and lock down were words that weren't in common usage in 2019. These caused massive uncertainty and fear globally.
Simon and I overnight become school teachers and were balancing demanding jobs, home schooling and trying to make a comic book.
- Unsure whether people would back a comic book during the uncertainty of COVID-19 we went ahead and launched the Kickstarter. Within the first few days of the campaign, riots and civil unrest spread across America.
Getting traffic to the Kickstarter page became really difficult - quite rightly people were very upset over what was playing out across the US.
On top of that we had the US election and Brexit punctuating a year of calamity with more uncertainty around production and distribution costings of the book.
Though I knew that I shouldn't focus on what I can't control, this year's events pushed it to a new plane.
I took solace in that if I can write, fund, produce, publish and distribute a comic book in 2020, next year should be easier.
