hey, which website has changed the way we live the most?

how's it going this week? Over the Easter break?
I wanted to ask you, in your opinion which website has changed the way we as a society live our daily lives.
Well the answer is most likely to be a social media site, Amazon or YouTube.
What if spun the question around to which website has changed the way in which people can change the way they can accomplish their big goals in life?
There aren't as many websites that do that, but they do exist.
Enter Kickstarter
So what is Kickstarter anyway?
Most likely you've probably heard of it, in fact I found a nice YouTube video on it, that explains it in 90 seconds - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg5q_TPfJZY
Essentially, it is a crowd funding platform, what that means is that creators can post their creative projects up for people to back their project. In exchange for backing the project the backer gets to choose from a series of rewards.
Now here's the crucial part of this
- no money is taken from the backer unless the project hits its funding goal
- the creator only receives the funds for the project if the project hits its funding goal
- Kickstarter runs on an all or nothing funding model
- if the project doesn't hit its funding goal then the creative team doesn't get any money and
- the backer isn't charged if the funding target isn't hit
So Farhan, why are you telling me about Kickstarter - are you about to start your own Kickstarter campaign?
Well, the short answer is, yes.
In the next few weeks, the team and I are going to be launching a Kickstarter to fund issue 1 of Digitopia.
What's really important for me, is that I pay the artists involved, their correct page rate.
Why is that so important?
Well, if artists can make their art sustainable then they can create more of it. And in the world we live in right now, we need artists to be creating art - that's why I'm running the Kickstarter, to make sure that you get your copy of issue 1 and the artists get paid a fair page rate.
So what's next?
In the next few weeks, I'll be giving you details of the Digitopia 1.0 Kickstarter, the rewards on offer and how you can get involved.
But for now, if you haven't already, go visit https://www.kickstarter.com/ now and have a look around the site, if you haven't been there before, you're going to be in for an eye opening experience - you'll see creators posting work that you don't normally see in the mainstream, it really is an oasis for creative independent talent. Signing up for an account is simple.
Okay till next week, have a good one.
Thanks
Farhan
