Another busy week at Team Digitopia
So we made it it - Digitopia The Digital Preview Edition
Over the past few weeks Simon and I have been putting together a digital preview of the Digitopia the comic book - we actually completed it this week, and it looks great - I'm so pleased with how it's come out.
I wanted to share it with you first. I've hosted it on my GDrive and you can get your copy here.
As well as all the pages made so far, we've put in some extra treats just for this preview including
- the visual anatomy of a comic book,
- full size character designs,
- how a cover is born,
- bios of the artists involved and
- some of our most recent reviews.
A bit of maths on the art of collaboration?
What's really interesting about this is that it all started as an idea I had - I think ideas are great, but ideas + action are our strongest currency.
Okay, so if I was to expand on that equation (I was reasonably good at maths a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away)), I would put it as
(ideas + action) * collaboration = successful projects
The project really ignited when I started collaborating with both Seb and Simon to make something.
There's two things that collaboration does
- you get the best of different skill-sets, finding collaborators allows each of us to bring out best strengths to build the project
- It holds you accountable - once you bring other people into the project, now you'd better start delivering on the promises, now there's a team counting on each other to deliver, trust me that keeps a project moving.
If we want to grow and have a successful project, then we have to give up the notion that we have to be the smartest person in the room - that thinking is what creates so many mediocre products and companies.
We won't grow unless we surround ourselves with people who are more skilled than ourselves.
This week on team Digitopia
So tomorrow we're going to review the first round of our animated trailer with Alex (our animation lead), I love animation, normally I would be doing the animation myself, but in the spirit of finding great collaborators, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Alex has come up with.
Simon and I are going to focus next week on putting together the Kickstarter package, this is how we are going to get funding for the rest of the book - essentially Kickstarter is pre-sales. Simon and I are going to be designing and costing out the pre-sales menu - I call it a menu but it's really a spreadsheet, almost the exact opposite of making a comic book.
Next week I'll also bring you part 3 of the 'So you want to create a graphic novel series' - where the focus will be on the comic book script itself.
So tell me
We've focused this week on collaboration and the power that it inherently holds.
Which project have you had your most successful collaboration on?
What are the main ingredients of strong collaboration, what works and equally important what doesn't work?
Till next week, have a great one.
Thanks
Farhan
